how it works
It might sound obvious, but finding the right therapist for you is important.
It can be daunting looking for someone as there are so many of us out there!
The terminology and qualifications can be confusing and it’s often about that initial connection.
I am transparent about how I work from the outset and encourage an open dialogue around what you expect, what you would like from therapy and anything else that feels important before we begin….
Trained in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, I draw on a range of theories to suit the individual client. I lean towards a person-centred approach through the lens of Existential psychotherapy. This means that I value your autonomy and encourage you to set the agenda - it’s your time and always about ‘you’. You can choose what to bring to each session. Sometimes, it’s difficult to know where to start but in dialogue, we can explore your concerns and how they present in relationships, how they relate to past experiences and find out more about your beliefs and values. Existential psychotherapy allows us to draw on ideas from philosophy which open up our world to a new perspective; how we cope with uncertainty, how we perceive our choices, how our values relate to the way we live our lives. When we feel stuck, these ideas can feel liberating and help to expand our self-awareness which basically results in more choice!
For therapy to work well, you need someone you can trust, respect and feel safe with. It’s an evolving relationship and I encourage openness and honesty so if it doesn’t feel ‘right’, we can talk about it. There is no obligation to book in for a set amount of sessions.
As such, I offer all clients a free consultation where we can chat through what you are looking for and find out if we are a good fit to work together.
What to expect:
I offer a free introductory 30 minute phone session to all clients.
This is an opportunity to find out if we’d be a good fit to work together, We can look at what brings you to therapy, what you would like to gain from it and how therapy could help you. It’s also an opportunity to find out if I can offer you what you want and need.
If you decide to book in for some sessions, I ask you to provide some brief details and for us to agree on a contract to work together.
